🪴 Egg & Caterpillar Rearing Tips:
- Hatching: Keep eggs in a small, ventilated container at room temperature. They typically hatch within 7–14 days, depending on conditions.
- First Food: Once hatched, feed with young oak leaves (Quercus spp.). Use only fresh, pesticide-free foliage.
- Humidity: Maintain moderate humidity. Mist very lightly if needed – avoid condensation.
- Housing: Transfer hatchlings to a ventilated enclosure. Clean regularly to prevent mould and overcrowding.
- Growth: Larvae grow steadily and will require more space and fresh leaves daily as they mature.
- Cocooning: Pupation occurs in thick silk cocoons among leaves or twigs.
Antheraea yamamai is a rare and rewarding species to rear from egg to moth – perfect for educational projects, silkmoth hobbyists, and anyone fascinated by insect life cycles.
