By Bramble’s Bug Basket

Brought to you by our expert in the field of lepidoptery, with over 40 years experience of breeding and the complete life-cycle care of moths.

Females can lay 150 eggs or more depending on size, where eggs normally hatch within 14 days. With up to 3 broods a year, caterpillars can reach 11.5cm long and 2.5 cm thick.

Cocoons can also be kept dormant in winter.

Host plants include evergreens such as Privet and Portuguese Laurel, with many deciduous food plants also including: Ailanthus, Ash, Cherry, Lilac, Liquidamber, Plum and Willow.

Larvae can be reared at room temperature and best kept in closed plastic boxes lined with paper towel until level 3, when more space and ventilation is required through use of mesh covered boxes or tanks.

Keep larvae in low densities and containers must be kept meticulously clean, with fresh food plant also essential.

Please ask if you have any further care questions, as we can’t be held responsible for issues that may arise from poor treatment.

Postage of eggs is always a concern for us, so buyers beware there is a risk of eggs hatching whilst in transit for which we aren’t responsible. Of course any hatched larvae will be fine for a short period. This why we are now sending all shipments first class, but we recommend you upgrade to 24-hour tracked to make sure you get your eggs as soon as possible!

Please note, all eggs are from moths where we’ve witnessed pairings, however this doesn’t guarantee fertility. If you experience any issues, please just message with a picture of your eggs and we’ll resolve the situation.

Please follow us as we’re going to have a busy and varied year, with loads of varieties available.

Thanks for looking and message if you have any questions!
